PRIMARY PURPOSE
Lead and coordinate cross-functional engineering activities for new-product development, product transfer, launch, and mass-production ramp-up from the early phase through stable MP operation. The role also owns factory layout planning for assigned projects, ensuring effective space utilization, material flow, workstation arrangement, safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Development Process Engineering
• Project leadership and coordination: Lead and coordinate engineering activities for new-product development, product transfer, launch, and MP ramp-up. Work with Project Management to develop the project master plan and align detailed schedules across Product, Process, Automation, Molding, Plating, Stamping, Quality, Production, Facilities, and other engineering functions.
• Manufacturing process concept and quotation inputs: Gather cross-functional inputs and propose the end-to-end manufacturing process, including stamping, injection molding, insert moulding, plating, assembly, labor requirements, packaging methods, and other manufacturing information required for project planning and pricing. Update assumptions after trial runs or product changes.
• Tooling and equipment readiness: Coordinate planning, procurement, development, installation, and readiness of product-specific dies, molds, assembly equipment, automation, fixtures, and other production assets.
• Trial, launch, and MP ramp-up: Drive preparation for line installation, process setup, documentation, materials, labour, special equipment, packaging, trial execution, production-line readiness, and MP ramp-up. Coordinate follow-up improvement activities during the first month after MP starts.
• Technical communication: Coordinate early-phase and trial-related communication between the factory and Molex development centres in Japan and other regions. Lead and actively participate in factory trial runs.
• Technical governance and learning: Create and maintain cross-functional engineering workflows, clarify responsibilities, issue new-product technical trial reports, summarize lessons learned, and coordinate improvement actions.
• Systems and compliance support: Support engineering administration in establishing systems for trial materials, sample delivery, and new/transfer-product databases aligned with ISO and IATF requirements.
B. Industrial Engineering - Factory Layout
• Factory layout design: Develop and maintain 2D factory and production-line layouts for new lines, transferred products, expansions, and engineering changes, in coordination with Project Management, Production, Facilities, EHS, Quality, and relevant engineering teams.
• Material and people flow: Design and optimize material flow, operator movement, workstation arrangement, equipment positioning, WIP locations, aisle access, and supporting areas to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
• Space utilization and capacity readiness: Evaluate floor-space requirements and layout alternatives based on equipment footprint, labour needs, process sequence, production volume, maintainability, safety, and future expansion needs.
• Line setup and transition support: Support new-line setup, equipment installation positioning, product transitions, and layout validation during trials and ramp-up. Coordinate layout revisions when process, equipment, material, or volume assumptions change.
• Layout documentation and control: Maintain accurate layout drawings, revision records, equipment lists, and related project documentation. Ensure approved layouts are clearly communicated and controlled.
C. Common Responsibilities
• Contribute to quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and project goals.
• Comply with 6S, Kaizen, Environmental Health and Safety, RBA and Social Responsibility, protection of company assets, TQM, Six Sigma, ISO, and applicable management-system requirements.
• Prepare clear progress updates, technical reports, layout records, and management summaries.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
