Certifications in Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or Quality Auditor are a strong plus.
1. Quality Management System Deployment • Establish, deploy, and maintain management systems in accordance with: o ISO 9001 (Quality Management) o ISO 22000 / FSSC22000 (Food Safety) o GMP, 5S, BRC, SMETA, ECOVADIS • Ensure full compliance with the latest international and national regulations for food contact materials, including but not limited to: o U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) o European Union Framework o Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/ o Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/2240 o Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 o Vietnamese National Regulations • Develop and implement quality standards, procedures, and work instructions (SOPs, WIs, QC Standards) for all stages of coated and printed metal products and metal packaging products. • Ensure full compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and legal regulations for both food and industrial packaging. 2. Product Quality Control – Incoming, In-Process, and Final a) Incoming Raw Materials (IQC) • Establish Raw Material Specifications for all critical inputs: o Tinplate and TFS (tin-free steel): thickness, hardness, temper, tin coating weight, surface roughness, flatness, and oil content. o Printing inks (solvent-based, UV-curable, heat-resistant): viscosity, fineness, colour strength, drying time, adhesion, and heat/chemical resistance. o Coatings (internal and external – epoxy, polyester, acrylic, etc.): solids content, viscosity, pH, cure profile, adhesion, corrosion resistance, and organoleptic properties (for food contact). o Solvents and surface treatment chemicals: purity and effect on adhesion. • Evaluate, approve, and monitor supplier quality performance; handle supplier non-conformances with robust CAPA. b) In-Process Quality Control (IPQC) – Coating Line • Define control plans for the coating (lacquering) process: o Monitor wet/dry coating thickness (using magnetic or eddy-current gauges). o Test adhesion via cross-hatch tape test and bend/cupping tests. o Check surface hardness (pencil test), gloss, colour uniformity, and scratch resistance. o Verify impact resistance and forming behaviour. o Monitor curing oven profile (temperature and dwell time) to ensure complete polymerisation. c) In-Process Quality Control (IPQC) – Metal Offset Printing • Set up stringent quality checks for the metal decorating (offset printing) line: o Colour control: use spectrophotometer to measure ΔE (CIE Lab) against approved Pantone/CMYK standards. o Print definition: inspect dot sharpness, register accuracy, and uniformity using magnifiers and gauges. o Ink adhesion: cross-cut and tape tests on printed surfaces. o Resistance tests: heat resistance (for retortable cans), chemical resistance, and scratch/abrasion tests. o Common defect detection: hickies, streaks, scumming, ghosting, misregistration, plate/blanket wear, and surface scratches. o Monitor plate and blanket quality before and during printing. d) In-Process and Final Quality Control – Forming (Can Making) • Implement inspection criteria for welding, beading, flanging, and sealing: o Weld seam strength and integrity (for resistance-welded or cemented seams). o Dimensional accuracy (diameter, height, ovality). o Mechanical tests: peel test, burst test, drop test, and pressure resistance (for beverage/beer cans). o Surface quality after forming: no coating/print damage, no scratches. o Leak tightness and seal integrity (for food cans and closures). e) Laboratory Operations & Advanced Testing • Manage the QA/QC laboratory, establishing and maintaining test methods for: o Adhesion (pull-off, cross-cut, and tape). o Hardness (pencil, Buchholz). o Gloss measurement. o Film thickness (magnetic/eddy-current). o Chemical resistance (to acids, alkalis, solvents, and food simulants). o Organoleptic testing (odour and taste panels for food-contact packaging; GC-MS if available). o Accelerated corrosion testing (salt spray). o Bend and cupping tests for formability. • Analyse QC data using Control Charts, Pareto, Cpk/Pp to evaluate trends, risks, and trigger preventive actions. • Make acceptance/rejection decisions for incoming materials and finished goods. 3. Customer Complaint Management & Continuous Improvement • Receive and investigate customer complaints using 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone combined with in-depth technical analysis (coating, printing, or forming root causes). • Lead the implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for both internal and customer-related issues. • Promote a quality culture and drive Kaizen, PDCA, and TPM Q-Pillar initiatives to achieve zero-defect objectives. • Coordinate with R&D and Production in New Product Introduction (NPI), new material trials, and new process validation. 4. System Development, Training & Audit a) Quality Training & People Development • Promote quality awareness throughout the organisation. • Develop and deliver technical training programs for operations teams (from production to sales) to enable ownership of product quality. • Recruit, train, evaluate, and develop the QA/QC team, building deep technical capability in metal printing, coating, and can-making technologies. • Create specific training modules on: o Coating and printing defect recognition. o Use of QC instruments and test methods. o Root cause analysis and problem-solving tools. b) Audit & Compliance • Lead internal audits, supplier audits, and preparation for external certification/surveillance audits. • Manage QMS documentation (version control, distribution, archiving). • Ensure compliance with all legal regulations on product quality, food safety (where applicable), and product labelling. • Stay updated on new industry and market standards (e.g., EU Packaging Directive, REACH, etc.) and implement necessary changes. 5. Supplier & Incoming Material Management • Establish quality standards and technical requirements for all raw materials (detailed in section 2a). • Evaluate, approve, and monitor supplier quality performance. • Manage supplier-related non-conformances and drive corrective actions. 6. Reporting & KPIs • Prepare and submit periodic quality reports (daily/weekly/monthly) to COO and BOD, including: o Key performance indicators (defect rate, scrap rate, customer complaint ratio). o Process capability indices (Cpk/Pp) for critical parameters (coating thickness, colour deviation, can dimensions). o Trend analysis by production stage (coating, printing, forming). o Summary of non-conformances, CAPA status, and audit results. o Retention sample test results and stability data. 7. Budget & Laboratory Management • Prepare and manage the operating budget for QA/QC and Laboratory. • Propose investments in new testing equipment, inspection tools, and quality management software. • Optimise laboratory efficiency and resource utilisation. 8. R&D & Product Development Support • Collaborate with R&D to evaluate new inks, coatings, and substrate materials (including low-migration inks for food safety, BPA-free internal coatings, and environmentally friendly alternatives). • Participate in NPI by designing validation plans (including mechanical, chemical, and food-safety tests) and assessing manufacturability at scale. • Monitor product quality and manufacturing performance to propose continuous improvement solutions (formulation, process, or raw material changes). • Control R&D costs to ensure economic efficiency while fostering innovation. 9.
