After 72 interviews as a candidate 😅, I often asked:
* If someone had this role before, what did you like about them?
* What could they have done better?
* What new tasks may be added to this role in the next 2–3 years?
The way a company talks about the previous employee may tell me a little bit how they treat people. These questions also help me understand the future growth of the role.
In addition, candidates who see interviews as a fair, two-way process are more likely to ask direct, polite and curious questions.
Candidates who feel the employer is in a higher position may feel nervous and ask less. At the same time, the company also needs to communicate openly so candidates feel comfortable asking questions.
Still, this may not always be the case. Introverted candidates, or those who already have enough information, may also ask fewer questions. So it is helpful to consider other factors as well when evaluating a candidate.
